Connecting Communities and their Environments

On the 2nd of June 2012, Huda Centre hosted a workshop that was part of the Urban Flows project. It is a study that aims at looking at how communities are connected with their environments. The project was organised by The Guiding Stars, Birmingham City University and Cardiff Metropolitan University, and funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). This walking project aims at exploring the connections between community and places. Walks were organised locally based, with participants choosing to walk on their own, with a friend or as part of a group. The purpose of the project is to gather your experiences, memories, thoughts and feelings in order to help us understand how the people of Birmingham connect with their environments and communities. Participants chose to record their walk and thoughts through spoken words (audio recorders were provided), or pictures (drawings or photographs), or by the things they collect during your walk. The day with a Community Day of sharing and traditional Somali food at the Huda Centre.
